About Our Boards, Committees, and Commissions

Nowak Room Board Meeting Space

The Town of Exeter government includes several boards, committees, and commissions.  These volunteer boards have a variety of responsibilities in their assigned areas.  Some boards are elected by the general public at the Town election each year, and other boards are appointed by the Select Board, who function as the Town's governing body.

Board functions are, in most part, determined by the State of NH RSAs (Revised Statutes Annotated).  The RSAs establish several boards including land use boards (Chapter 674), conservation commission (RSA 36), and Select Board (RSA 41).  Other Boards have been created over the years through various means, sometimes via a vote of the Town, and other times at the creation of the Select Board.  Each Board's core mission reflects the RSAs and/or other authority by which the Board was established.  Below is a quick list of some of the boards and committees in Exeter:

To apply to be a member of a Board or Committee appointed by the Select Board, you must fill out a "statement of interest" application through the Town Manager's Office.  You will then be scheduled for a brief interview with the Select Board.  Appointments to Boards and Committees are typically made at the next regular Select Board meeting following the interview (subject to the discretion of the Board).
