Board and Committee Appointments

Exeter has several volunteer boards, committees and commissions.  To be considered for appointment, you must be a resident, and complete & submit an application to the Town Manager's Office (pmcelroy@exeternh.gov).  Upon receipt, you will be contacted to schedule a brief interview with the Select Board.  After Select Board appointment (typically at the Select Board meeting following the interview), you will be contacted by the Town Manager's Office.  Service may begin at the next committee meeting.

Most committees meet once per month, but some meet more frequently.  It is a good idea to communicate with the Committee Chair in advance to ensure you are available for regularly scheduled meeting days and times.

The Town of Exeter supports government transparency by broadcasting meetings through several different outlets, including Xfinity Channel 22, Facebook live, and Youtube.  Meetings are streamed using online media tools.

Some committees (Select Board, Trustees of Trust Funds, Trustees of the Library, Trustees of the Robinson Fund, Swasey Parkway Trustees, and Supervisors of the Checklist) are elected rather than appointed.

You may run for elected offices by filing your intent to run during the January filing period (typically the last week in January leading up to the Deliberative Session) with the Town Clerk's Office, during regular business hours.  Each year there is at least one spot available for each of these committees.

The Town Manager's Office coordinates re-appointments annually for those members with expiring terms.  If your term is scheduled to expire, you will be contacted regarding your intent to continue.

Questions regarding committee roles and responsibilities may be directed to current Board Chairs or through the Town Manager's Office.  Thank you for considering serving Exeter's Town government.
