The Town of Exeter encourages residents and businesses to shop local this holiday season. Shopping locally assists our community in so many ways – it supports the local economy, businesses, workers, environment and contributes to a sense of community.

Some interesting facts: For every $100 you spend at locally owned businesses, $68 will stay in the community vs $43 if you buy from a national chain; Buying from a locally owned business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging; Local businesses donate to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains; Local businesses carry a wider array of unique products because they buy for their own individual markets; Shipping produces 1 billion metric tons of C02 a year, and; Local businesses generate 70% more local economic activity per square foot than big box retail.

November 25 is Small Business Saturday. In 2021, 108 million shoppers spent $12.9 billion on Small Business Saturday and we’d like to see that number rise. Please do your part by visiting Exeter businesses on November 26 and throughout the holiday season and encourage others to do the same. Remember, over $9.3 billion would be directly returned to our economy if every US family spent just $10 a month at a local business.
