Stephan Poulin Sworn In As Chief of Police

Chief Poulin

The Exeter Police Department is pleased to announce the appointment of our new chief, Stephan Poulin.  He has served as Interim Chief since the retirement of former Chief William Shupe March 8.  He has served in all the capacities of the department, and has the administrative background needed, he understands the challenges of running a modern police department.  Chief Poulin is excited about the new opportunity and he has already been implementing specialized training programs such as an implicit bias training for officers and collaborating with Seacoast Mental Health Center to better train officers on a variety of strategies to help people struggling with mental health issues.  Poulin has earned several achievements during his tenure, including the U.S. Inspector General’s Award for his investigation into the Exeter Hospital hepatitis C outbreak, oversight of the arrest and conviction of three family members in the “City Concrete Murder” case, and work on the Tammy Belanger case. He has been a member of Exeter police for 17 years and has 20 years in law enforcement overall.
