Vehicle Registration
Vehicle registrations are processed at the Town Clerk's office.
Renewals are done annually in the month of the owner's birth, unless it is a leased vehicle.
New residents MUST provide proof of residency in the Town of Exeter by providing a lease, deed, utility bill or rent receipt.

Effective January 1, 2013:  1998 or OLDER vehicle registered on or after January 1, 2013 will require in ADDITION to the bill of sale ONE Of the following documents:

 

  • Previously issued NH Registration
  • Valid out of state title
  • Verification of VIN (Form 19A). Form 19A is available at the Town Clerk's Office or DMV. Form 19A must be verified by a NH Law Enforcement Officer or an authorized NH Licensed Auto Dealer or an authorized NH Inspection Station.

Vehicle Registration Fees and Information
Town Permit fees are based on the manufacturer’s suggested retail price when the vehicle is new (per Maclean Hunter Market Reports). The Town Fee is pro-rated to the owner's birth month and year of vehicle. State permit fees are based on gross vehicle weight (vehicle plus allowed passengers).

Certificate of Title
Preparation of NH Title, done at Town Clerk's office - $25 payable to the State of NH Title Bureau on vehicles. If the title is held by a lien holder, the registrant MUST provide the complete mailing address of the lien holder. The State of NH Title Bureau requires all owners to sign a title application, or provide a notarized Power of Attorney form for the signature of the owner, if unable to appear in person. This form must be presented with the title at the time of application.

Vehicle License Plates
Regular passenger plates, motorcycle plates, trailer plates, moose plates, farm plates, agriculture plates and tractor plates are available at the Town Clerk's Office. You may ORDER vanity plates at the Town Clerk's Office. Handicap plates and other types of plates are available at the State of NH Dept. of Motor Vehicles.

Vehicle Inspections
New registrations: Inspection is due within 10 days of registering the vehicle.
Renewal registration: Inspection is due by the 10th day of the following month.
