Town Hall Attic Insulation Upgraded

Exeter, NH - June 25th, 2022: The Town Hall attic insulation was recently replaced in an effort to make the building more energy efficient. This project was on the radar of several Town committees and departments but the Energy Committee took the lead and found a rebate program offered by NH Saves to get $8,000 to offset the $21,000 cost of the upgraded insulation.

Energy Committee member Amy Farnham explained more about the program, "everyone puts money into this program when they pay their electric bill.  Unitil calculates and disburses the rebate.  They have municipal, residential, and commercial programs and people should check it to see what kind of rebates and funds they might be eligible for." For more information about rebates and visit the NH Saves Rebate website.

Saving money isn't the only benefit of improving insulation. "Insulation is the best way to keep energy costs down while also keeping CO2 out of the environment by reducing our use of fossil fuels.  The Town Hall will be more comfortable, more efficient, greener, and less dependent on fossil fuels," added Farnham.

Combining this project with future plans to install a more energy-efficient electric heat pump system in the Town Hall, the installation of a Town solar array on the landfill, and the implementation of the Community Power Initiative means that the Town Hall could soon be heated and cooled with clean, renewable energy.

These projects also open up the potential for future arts and culture programming for the Town Hall going forward. "Transforming the Town Hall into a community hub has long been on Exeter's Master Plan. The Energy Committee is thrilled to be able to help lay some of the groundwork to make this historic space more comfortable and energy efficient." - Energy Committee Chair Renay Allen

The work was completed in the middle of June by Newell & Crathern out of Loudon.
