Documents Required for Vehicle Registration
We accept these forms of payment when paying in person:
- Credit or Debit Cards
- Checks
- Cashier Checks
- Money Orders
- Bank Checks
- Travelers Checks
- Cash
PROOF OF RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
Acceptable Proof of Residency:
- A current New Hampshire drivers license or out of state drivers license AND
- A utility bill OR
- A rent/lease or mortgage agreement OR
- A note from your parent/landlord that you live at that address along with a piece of mail addressed to you at that address.
REGISTRATION RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A current registration OR
- A copy of the Renewal Notice that was emailed to you OR
- A current Drivers License
If you do not provide the Town Clerk's Office with a current registration, a copy of the renewal notice, or a valid NH drivers license, we will have to print out a duplicate registration for $18.00.
VEHICLES JUST PURCHASED:
For vehicles with a model year of 2000 or newer:
- A Bill of Sale signed by both Seller(s) and Buyer(s) or a sales receipt AND one of the following three;
- the original Certificate of Origin signed over on the back to the new owner, OR the original Certificate of Title signed over on the back to the new owner, OR the Town Clerk's copy of the Certificate of Title Application (CTA) provided by the dealer.
- If you are transferring NH plates from a vehicle that is registered in your name but being taken off the road, you need to bring in the registration to the vehicle you are transferring the plates from.
For vehicles with a model year of 1999 or older:
- A Bill of Sale signed by both Seller(s) and Buyer(s) or a sales receipt
- The prior owner's previously issued NH registration (out-of-state registration is not acceptable) OR a valid NH or out-of-state title OR a verification of VIN (Form 19A) completed by an appropriate agency - law enforcement officer, NH State Inspection station, or NH dealer.
