Swasey Parkway Re-Opening to One-Way Traffic

The Swasey Parkway will reopen on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 to one-way traffic.  Traffic will be routed northerly from the downtown entry into the Parkway onto Newfields Road on the north end.

This action is taking place after the Select Board decided to reopen the Parkway to one-way traffic by amending a Town Ordinance at the August 23, 2021 meeting of the Board.

The vote of the Board was unanimous after discussion about the Board's ability to keep the Parkway open.  Terms of the Swasey Trust require a roadway to be open to "pleasure vehicles".

The Board originally voted to close the Parkway during the period of Governor Sununu's Emergency Order to allow the public access for outdoor activities while social distancing.  Upon the expiration of the Emergency Order, the Board kept the Parkway closed citing issues related to public safety while they explored options within their authority.

The Board will continue to openly consider other options with the Parkway.
