About Us
The Exeter Building Department provides the Town of Exeter with Building Inspection Services, Code Enforcement and Zoning Administration. Building permits, which serve as formal and legal permission for homeowners and contractors to start any residential or commercial construction projects are required in the Town of Exeter and applications can be obtained in the Building Department Office at the Exeter Town Office.
Due to the unique and varying nature of construction related projects, our department requires applicants to meet directly with Building Department staff when obtaining and filling out building, electrical or plumbing/gas applications. Electrical and plumbing contractors also need to present valid trade licenses when filling out applications. The Exeter Building and Electrical Inspectors require twenty-four hours notice for inspections. It is the responsibility of the homeowner and/or contractor to schedule all required inspections.
The Town of Exeter is operating under the 2015 International Building and Residential Codes, as amended.
The Building Department also coordinates all Code Enforcement and Zoning Administration functions for the Town of Exeter. The Code Enforcement Officer is available to answer resident concerns and questions about Permitted Uses in the various zoning districts in town as well as providing assistance to property owners as they try to remain compliant with the Town's Regulations.
The Exeter Zoning Board of Adjustment meets monthly and any and all questions, concerns and application related inquiries can be directed to the Building Department staff. Our department also maintains all past zoning board case files which are available for review and research purposes.
