Exeter Fire Department - Our Equipment
The Exeter Fire Department has a number of unique pieces of equipment that respond to emergencies in Exeter. We’ve put together a brief description of some of the jobs that these truck do. Also, to see these trucks in action you can go to YOUTUBE Videos under Exeter Fire Department “On the Job.”
Car 1 - This vehicle currently serves as department head transportation and occasionally the command post at emergency incidents. It is used respond to emergency incidents and to move personnel to emergencies, practical training exercises and classes. This vehicle is also equipped with life-saving equipment such as and advanced first aid kit and AED.
Car 2 - The vehicle currently serves as the command post at emergency incidents and is used to move personnel to emergencies, practical training exercises and classes. The vehicle is large enough to fit 4 personnel with all associated protective equipment & turnout gear when responding to emergency situations and serve as a command post at emergency scenes. This vehicle is also equipped with life-saving equipment such as an advanced first aid kit and AED.
Car 3 - The vehicle currently serves as the command post at emergency incidents and is used to move personnel to emergencies, practical training exercises and classes. The vehicle is large enough to fit 4 personnel with all associated protective equipment & turnout gear when responding to emergency situations and serve as a command post at emergency scenes. This vehicle is also equipped with life-saving equipment such as an advanced first aid kit and AED.
Fire Prevention – This vehicle is the first Jeep in our fleet. It is used daily by our Fire Prevention Lieutenant conducting fire alarm and sprinkler inspections, fire prevention inspections, fire drills and educational programs in our school system. This smaller vehicle is fuel efficient yet still large enough to carry personnel and associated equipment and gear when responding emergency situations. This vehicle is also equipped with life-saving equipment such as an advanced first aid kit and AED.
Utility 1 - ThisFord F-250 Diesel 4X4 vehicle is used to transport emergency response trailers, such as the Hazardous Materials trailer, Special Rescue trailer, the boat for water rescues and trailers used by the Exeter All-Hazards Health Region as well as personnel and equipment to and from emergency scenes and training evolutions.
Ambulance 1 and Ambulance 2 - With the ever-increasing EMS call volume, nearly 1,800 calls per year, both of these vehicles are on the road every day providing life-saving emergency medical assistance for the residents and visitors of Exeter. Watch the "On the Job" Ambulance 1 video.
Fire Alarm Truck - As the town continues to grow the fire alarm system will continue to keep up with growth and maintenance, requiring the services of this vehicle. This vehicle is shared with the Public Works Dept. for streetlight service and bulb replacement and when an elevated platform is necessary.
Utility 1 – This Dodge 5500 pickup truck is large enough to carry personnel and firefighting equipment and is equipped with a forestry skid unit and 9500 lb winch, water and foam tanks. Exeter is fortunate to have many acres of forests and woodlands that are only accessible by this smaller workhorse of a truck.
Engines – The Fire Department currently runs 4 engine/pumpers. All the engines are set up to fight fires, carrying a minimum of 750 gallons of water each. Although the engines are primarily set up the same, they have some different assignments. Engine 1’s first priority is as a water source, Engine 2 and Engine 5 are “attack engines”, Squad 3 as well as responding to all fires, this engine is set up to respond to motor vehicle accidents and is used as heavy rescue carrying a number of specialty equipment. This truck also responds to mutual aid calls and is equipped to respond as a RIT team. All of our trucks have 750-gallon tanks with 1500 gallons per minute pumps. Ladder 1 - Ladder trucks are a key piece of equipment for the town's fire protection, as its main purpose is to save lives. The ladder truck provides a solid work platform for firefighters to rescue trapped occupants, provider safer conditions to operate on the roof, ventilate smoke and hazardous gases through roofs to keep our firefighters safe and to mitigate damage at the scene of a building fire.
