What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, money orders and official bank checks for both Water/Sewer and Tax payments. We also accept credit cards in person and online (additional fees apply). You may also pay by eCheck/bank draft online only.
Can I make a partial payment on my taxes or water/sewer account?
Yes, partial payments can be made at any time. We encourage customers with unpaid balances to make small payments as frequently as they can. Doing so reduces interest charges.
Tax
When are property taxes due in Exeter?
The first bill is mailed in June and is due in July. (Due 30 days from the date the bill was mailed).
The second bill is mailed in November and is due in December. (Due 30 days from the date the bill was mailed).
How do I apply for a Tax Exemption or Abatement?
Exemption information and application is through the Assessing Department. Please reach out if you are not sure if you would qualify, we are happy to assist you.
Why can't I find my bill on the Payment Portal?
To locate your Property Tax Bill, please use ONLY ONE OF the search fields provided on the Real Estate Page. You can search by Parcel, or Owner Name-(Last name followed by First name with no commas in between), or Property Address. It is best to use ONLY one of those options. The system will not find your bill if you fill out every search field. If your bill has gone to lien, you cannot make a payment online but you can view your balance due.
Water/Sewer
How do I find my CID# to register for the online portal?
Your account number and CID number are located on the upper right hand corner of your bill.
How often will I receive a water/sewer bill?
The Town bills for water/sewer quarterly, so you will receive a bill 4 times a year. Bills are typically mailed on the last business day of the month. You have 30 days to pay your bill without interest.
District 1- February, May, August and November.
District 2- March, June, September, December.
District 3- January, April, July and October.
The first number of your water/sewer account number corresponds to the district in which you are billed.
What do I do if I suspect I have a leak?
Please contact Public Works at (603) 418-6460 or email watersewerbilling@exeternh.gov. A data download of usage history and/or a leak check can be conducted. Toilet Dye strips that detect leaking toilets are also available upon request.
Should I schedule a final meter reading when I sell my house?
Yes, a meter reading must be taken and a final bill will be provided before the closing of your home. Just like property taxes, your water and sewer bill must be paid to date. Please call to schedule readings at least 48 hours before with the Public Works Department at (603) 418-6460 or email watersewerbilling@exeternh.gov
