Property Tax Info

Exeter's 2024 property tax rate is $17.79 per 1,000 of assessed valuation.

Property Tax Rate

The rate is made up of four components: Town, School, State Education, and County. The School Rate includes both the Local School District (Main Street and Lincoln Street Schools) and the Exeter share of the Exeter Region Cooperative School District.

In late October or November each year, a new tax rate is set for each category based on that year's budget, and changes in assessed valuation. The Town has various tax exemption programs for veterans, seniors, and the disabled, which impact the total tax rate. Property taxes are typically due and payable July 1st and December 1st of each year.

The Town's latest property tax rate was set on November 8th, 2024 by the New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration. The Department of Revenue Administration has not set the 2024 town equalization rate but it is expected to be about 95%.

Property Tax Bills

Property Tax bills are generated and mailed twice a year. The first bill is mailed in May and due 30 days from the bill date. The second bill is mailed in November and due 30 days from the bill date. Please be advised that the billing dates and due dates change each year. The months stay the same, but the other dates may change.  The second half is not always December 1st. Please read the bill for due dates and when interest will start accruing.

The Tax Rate always changes for the second half, so the second half bill will always be different from your first half.  The first half bills are created from half of the total taxes from the year before.  The Tax Year runs from April 1st through March 31st of the following year:

  • 1st Installment covers April 1st- September 30th.
  • 2nd installment covers October 1st- March 31st.

The new tax rate is reflected on the second half property tax bills. Tax bills will be mailed out on November 18th, 2024 are due December 19th, 2024.
