5/29/14: The Gilman Park foot bridge repair was a success!  The Highway Department will complete the chain link fence today (5/29/14) and the project will be complete!

Project Overview

The Gilman Park foot bridge deck has rotted away and the supports below need extensive work in order to make it safe. Due to budgetary restraints the bridge cannot be replaced. A structural engineer evaluated the bridge to determine if our crew could repair it to make it last a few more years.  We are planning to get started with in the next few weeks. We will begin with repairing the frame with steel reinforcing plates. A crane big enough to lift the deck, but small enough to get in from the Gilman park side is needed due to the high voltage power lines on the other side. Next, we will add new support timbers under the bridge, and lastly we will re-deck and repair the hand rails. It is important to note that this is a very difficult project with limited budget funding. We are optimistic we can save it, but there are no guarantees.
