Winter Emergency Parking Bans

snow parking ban

The Town enforces a Winter Parking Ban from December 1st to March 15th of each year. This ban prohibits parking within Town right-of-ways and alongside streets between the hours of 12:00 a.m.-midnight and 6:00 a.m. The Town has the authority to ticket and tow vehicles (at the owner's expense) found in violation. The purpose of the winter parking ban is to allow unimpeded winter snow and ice control maintenance.

During the Winter season, Snow Emergency Parking Bans can be instituted by the Public Works Director with the Concurrence of the Chief of Police in the event of a predicted or on-going severe snowstorm (Town ordinance #102.6 Snow Emergency).

The Ban is put in place to improve and expedite the process of removing snow from Exeter's streets. To improve the efficiency of the removal effort some snow removal is done at night. This parking ban prohibits any car to be in Town right of way during a specific timeframe. The Town has the right to tow or ticket any violators.

There are areas in town where overnight parking is allowed. These spaces are marked. The Municipal Parking Lot on Water Street, 8 spaces on Pleasant Street, Train Station lot, Front Street lot has several marked spaces that may be used for overnight parking. There are (8) eight parking spaces available on Pleasant Street that can be permitted for overnight parking.
These spaces are permitted on a first come first serve basis and requests can be made through the Town Manager's office beginning on November 1.
