Fleet Study - 2009
The Fleet Study is a draft report that analyzed Exeter's current vehicle fleet and management practices. Fleet study was adopted by the Air Force several decades ago. This study uses a system of measurement called Vehicle Equivalent Units (VEU). VEUs are used to standardize the amount of time and resources spent on vehicle maintenance. In the System 1 VEU is equal to the maintenance required for a standard sedan.
By using a standard unit of measure we are able to identify issues such as required staff, hours of maintenance required, and other fleet problems that would otherwise go unnoticed. The study made several suggestions to improve the Town fleet management. The recommendations are being explored by the Town government while others are currently underway.
One of the primary recommendations of this draft report was to acquire some form of tracking software for Exeter's vehicle fleet. The Town has recently acquired a maintenance tracking system from TMA. Town employees have been using this software to improve our vehicle maintenance and repair tracking records. TMA has improved maintenance efficiency and could potentially extend vehicle life for the Town's fleet, in turn saving the Town money on break down costs.
