Vehicle Maintenance

The Public Works Department is responsible for the Town's vehicle and heavy equipment fleet. Most of our fleet repairs are done at the Public Works garage located at the 13 Newfields Road complex. However, some specialty maintenance is required for Fire apparatus, etc. which is contracted out to other companies when necessary.

Repairs and maintenance encompass everything from dump trucks to wood chippers. The extensive skills of the Town Mechanics and logistical support they provide allow the Town to continue its daily operational use of its vehicles.

Maintaining Exeter's Fleet can be an expensive process, and the Town is in the process of reducing these costs. By reducing the average age of the Town's Fleet, less money would be spent on maintenance. Another advantage to a lower average fleet age would be higher productivity. If vehicles spend less time in the garage they can be completing tasks in a timely manner.
