String Bridge Rehabilitation Project
This project was completed in early November 2017.
Update 10/20/17: The String Bridge will be paved on Monday, October 23rd which requires that the entire bridge is closed for the day. Paving will begin at 7 am on the library side so we can open up the driveways to the library and mills as soon as possible.
UPDATE 10/6/17: String Bridge is open! Construction equipment was removed Thursday, October 5th and the concrete sidewalk was poured today, Friday, October 6th. More of the sidewalk will be poured on Saturday, but String Bridge will remain open.
UPDATE 9/14/17: The String Bridge construction is switching to the west side (Water St) of the bridge this week. It will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians. Access to Kimball Island will be from the east side (library) only. This detour will remain in effect until late October. The project is expected to be completed by the end of October.
UPDATE 7/5/17: The String Bridge will be closed on the east side (library) to vehicles and pedestrians beginning July 10th. Access to Kimball Island will be from the west side (Water St) only. This detour will remain in effect until early September when it will then be switched to the other half of the bridge until late October.
UPDATE 6/29/17: The start date for construction has been moved to July 10, 2017.
UPDATE 6/13/17: R.M. Piper will begin work on the String Bridge on July 5, 2017. They will be starting on the east (library) span of the bridge, which will be closed for approximately 2 months. The contractor will then switch to the other span of the bridge. There will always be access to Kimball Island from one side of the bridge.
A public information meeting was held on June 21, 2017, at 6:30 pm to present the project schedule and detour.
